Intact Insurance offers a legal insurance plan for small businesses* that you can't afford not to have. The plan provides legal advice by telephone and coverage for your expenses in the event of a suit.
Start with good advice
If you need legal advice in one of the areas that's covered, you can talk on the phone with a lawyer who has a minimum of 5 years' experience.
If you own your own business, this service is automatically extended to any private issues you are involved in**.
Legal fees - if it comes to that
No one wants to get involved in legal proceedings, but sometimes you cannot avoid it. Legal Fee Insurance covers the cost of the lawyer of your choice. Whether it's a civil suit or administrative court case, in provincial or federal court, Legal Expenses for Business covers lawyers' fees, expenses, expert witnesses or reports (engineers, accountants, doctors, etc.), and court costs, up to $5,000 per claim and $10,000 for each policy year, for lawsuits originating in the Province of Quebec.
Personal matters too
If you are a business owner, you can use this protection for your personal life as well, with the same limits and conditions as for business disputes. You will be covered for litigation in the following areas:***
• consumer issues (plaintiff/purchaser only)
• bodily injury and property damage
• property and residential
• income security
• labour
You may also add family protection for a partner, shareholder or employee at an annual cost of $24 (+ tax).
Eligibility
Legal Expenses for Business is available only to businesses with gross revenues of less than $3 million. And for a premium that is much lower than a single legal bill.
